Supporting Your Child’s Education Journey at Iowa Virtual Academy
At Iowa Virtual Academy (IAVA), we are committed to providing a supportive and personalized learning experience that helps students thrive. As a public school, we follow Iowa’s requirements of 180 school days and 6.5 hours of learning per day, ensuring students receive a rigorous education.
Personalized Education for Every Student
From the moment your child begins their education at IAVA, they benefit from a personalized approach tailored to their needs and interests. Our K12 curriculum accommodates various learning styles and helps students build a strong foundation in core subjects. As students progress through middle and high school, they engage with advanced concepts, critical thinking, and career-focused electives that prepare them for the future.
The Role of Learning Coaches
At IAVA, parents or guardians take on the role of Learning Coach, providing academic support and motivation. Learning Coaches ensure students stay on track with assignments, communicate with teachers, and maintain daily attendance. If a parent or guardian cannot fulfill this role, another trusted adult can be designated as the Learning Coach.
Engaging Curriculum and Instruction
Our curriculum from K12 includes interactive elements like animations, videos, and games to keep students engaged. Instruction is delivered through live virtual sessions, known as “Class Connects,” where students participate in discussions, ask questions, and receive personalized feedback. These sessions are a critical part of the learning experience, allowing students to interact with teachers and peers in real-time.
College and Career Preparation
IAVA offers opportunities for early college and career preparation. High school students can explore career paths through electives and gain valuable skills. We also provide concurrent enrollment with Northeast Iowa Community College, allowing students to earn college credits while still in high school. For student-athletes, IAVA is an NCAA-approved school, ensuring courses meet academic requirements for college athletics.
Structured Learning and Attendance
As a public school, IAVA follows strict attendance policies. Students are required to be online for live sessions with teachers and must meet Iowa’s legal requirements of 180 school days and 6.5 hours of learning per day. Our teachers follow pacing guides that align with Iowa’s standards, ensuring students meet academic benchmarks.
Learning from Anywhere
While our program requires structured attendance, the online format allows students to learn from various locations with an internet connection. Whether at home or away, students can continue their studies without interruption, ensuring consistent education no matter where they are.
