What is Open Enrollment?
Open Enrollment is the process by which parents/guardians residing in one Iowa school district may enroll their children in another Iowa school district under the terms and conditions of Iowa Code section 282.18 and the administrative rules of the Iowa Department of Education, 281 Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 17. View the Iowa Department of Education's website.
How many of my children can I enroll in Iowa Virtual Academy?
Because Iowa Virtual Academy provides all the lesson plans and materials needed for grades K-12, many parents find it easy to enroll multiple children in the program.
What does it cost to attend Iowa Virtual Academy?
Since Iowa Virtual Academy is a public school program, there is no tuition. Iowa Virtual Academy provides a state-certified teacher and all instructional materials for the program. However, students and families will be responsible for providing some consumable materials (such as printer ink and paper). In addition, families are required to provide their own computers and Internet access to participate in the program.
What is the attendance policy?
Iowa Virtual Academy works with families toward a positive attendance record to meet their required number of 180 instructional days. Attendance will be logged daily in the Online School by the Learning Coach.
Can I take a vacation during the school year?
The school calendar includes school "holidays" or vacation time. Whenever possible, family vacations should align with school vacation days. Extended family travel (more than 3 days) except during normal school vacation periods requires written notification and vacation contract approval by the Head of School or designee. This should be completed at least one week prior to the extended absence.
Does Iowa Virtual Academy offer full- or part-time kindergarten?
Iowa Virtual Academy only offers full-time enrollment for kindergarten students who are five years old before September 15 of the year in which they wish to enroll.
